As of Aug. 14, 2012, Judi (a New York native) and I will have been married 41 years. Daughter Sara is a Professor of Oceanography at Columbia University. Son Warren manages an internal audit team for Hong Kong Shanghai Commercial Bank in Los Angeles. He has a 6-year-old, Emily.

After completing studies at the University of Oregon (BA & MA), I spent 32 years as a newspaper reporter/editor. It was a wonderful career which enabled me to travel to both poles of the earth and cover the eruptions at Mt. St. Helens. I've also worked for U.S. Sen. Alan Cranston and CA Gov. Gray Davis in communications and legislative positions.

In California, water is the mother issue of all politics. Since retiring in 2007, I've been in the middle of California's water wars as vice president of an environmental organization. I spend my time fighting with polluters and government regulators over clean water and fishery issues.
