Frank Lyon
    deceased

Frank Lyon died in March 1998 of Multiple Sclerosis. He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter, who live in the Wenatchee area, and sister Luella, class of '60. He was active on both the junior high and senior high football teams.

Shortly after graduating in our class, Frank went to Wenatchee where he owned and operated the Motel Lyon with his wife.

    (Bob Weaver's memories)
"Between our Jr. and Sr. years, Frank broke his leg in a water skiing accident, I think. Anyhow, he didn't play in our first three games our Sr. year (neither did Jeff Thompson and Darrell Hostvedt). Well, all were back for the 4th game and we won 6 straight. Most notable was "THE GAME" against undefeated Lake Washington. We had battled back and forth the whole game and LW was leading. Jeff Plant, our quarterback, called a Strong Right, 35 Slam which meant Frank would get the ball and go between our left tackle and end. Well, he blew through the hole and scored, knotting the score! A pass from Jeff to Charlie Burdell for the extra point was good and we went on to win, 7-6. Frank was always good for 2-3 yards and that's what we needed but, man, did he hit that line hard!"

"Years later, at our 20th reunion at the Red Lion in Bellevue, Frank and his wife and my wife and I were apparently the only grads who stayed at the hotel. It was really good to spend time with him and get to know him all over again. You know, it's funny, it didn't seem like it had been 20 years at all."

"A favorite memory was borrowing Frank's baseball glove frequently in 6th grade recess at Lakeview school, and walking home with Frank and Paul Jones after catching the Lakeview bus to Mercer Crest and walking down the hill to East Mercer Way.

I also remember a feature on Frank in the South Mercer Junior Hi paper, featuring his excellent performance in his 9th grade year. If I recall correctly, he had turned out for the first time that year, and was praised by his coach for high determination and dedication. Frank was a mainstay of the team all four years."
