After graduation from high school, Dave immediately went into the field of newspaper production, a career that occupied his entire life, with the exception of a three-year hitch in the U. S. Army. Dave was attending night school at Highline College when the dreaded draft notice came in the mail, and it came as no surprise since he wasn't taking enough credit hours to remain exempt from the draft.
Dave spent his entire Army enlistment in Munich and Augsburg, at logistical support headquarters in both places, where he worked as an Admin Specialist, and a R. T. O. Agent. While he was never invited to serve in Vietnam, his army experience did allow him the opportunity to travel throughout Western Europe, including such places as London, Berlin, Barcelona and Vienna.
After getting out of the army in 1968, Dave spent four years of aimless wandering, most of which time was wasted and unproductive. When he came to his senses, he realized that there is indeed a God, and that He expects more from him than habitual drunkenness. Six months after Dave accepted Christ as his savior, he was married to Lorraine, whom he's remained married to for the last 43 years. Lorraine and Dave have two sons, Glen and Robert, and four granddaughters. Both do volunteer work in the community, through their church, and enjoy the benefits of being retired.
Dave has several hobbies to keep busy. He plays the trumpet and saxophone for his own amusement, and sometimes during their church services. He's a better-than-average photographer, a skill which he picked up at the Kent News-Journal, where he worked for many years. Dave has been a volunteer bugler at the national cemetery for the last 15 years, and has sounded taps at hundreds of military and veteran services throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Dave remembers his first home coming game in 1962, the night of the Columbus Day storm. Mercer Island was playing Bellevue and the game was cut short by high winds in the first few minutes. Was anyone else there that night?
Dave no longer lives in Washington State, so he rarely get back to the old stomping grounds around the Island. Maybe one of these years he'll return there for a home coming.

The picture on the left was taken on Dave's 73rd birthday, which he celebrated by going down the zip line at Camp Kellogg Springs in Oregon.
