I don't work much any more, I am semi-retired and have a small Human Resources consulting business. Most of my work is done in Yakima, but I do get around the state a bit.
I am divorced and have a 20-year old daughter. My son passed away several years ago.
What have I been doing the last 40 years? Well, after graduation I attended WSU and graduated in 1967 with a degree in education, teaching credentials and a commission in the US Army. I spent the next 3 years serving my country in Indiana, Colorado and Alaska. For some reason I didn't go to Viet Nam, maybe I was just lucky. While stationed in Alaska I met the woman who would become my wife and we married in April, 1971, 6 months after I got out of the service. We lived in Anchorage for another 4+ years where I worked for the Greater Anchorage Area Borough in Personnel and then moved back to Washington. I worked in Yakima from 1975-1987 for both Yakima County and the City of Yakima (Personnel work) then moved to Tacoma where I was the Director of Personnel for Pierce County. We adopted our son from Colombia in 1981 when we lived in Yakima and our daughter, also from Colombia, in 1988 when in Tacoma. Those two trips to Colombia were eye-openers, the wealth and the poverty and I don't think I would ever get used to seeing armed troops and police roaring around the cities (Cali and Bogota).
After my divorce, I retired from government service, sold the house and moved to Yakima to start a new phase of my life. Frankly, I'm not sure how I ever had time for a full-time job when I was working.
I am healthy, happy and really enjoying my life today. Yakima is a great place and I don't feel crowded and traffic is minimal most of the time. I hunt, fish, work in my yard and garden, cook, do some traveling, and of course do some consulting which lets me play a bit harder and longer.
